Fifteen years back my family had bought a new home. Back then my father had done the entire interiors by getting together best of the designer and contractors. The house was made keeping in mind the needs of the family. Everything from furniture, to lamps, to color everything was selected by putting in a lot of effort and time. Cut to 15 years later, the needs of the family had changed. I was married with 2 small kids. We started to notice a crack on the wall here, a broken shelf there, a drawer that refuses to open, peeled paint on the ceilings, leaking taps, a seemingly outdated popcorn ceiling and a whole lot of other issues. In summary, our beloved home was extremely outdated and it was SCREAMING for a makeover.
For quite some time we had been toying with the idea of renovating our house, but oh well responsibilities! Although we kept saving up for our grand renovation plans, it almost always kept getting diverted towards something else — kids’ education, parent’s surgery and so on. Finally, after a few years of working hard and saving, we are in a place where we can transform our humble abode. My wife for one had been dreaming of a open kitchen, a little library for the kids and a huge closet. I, on the other hand, wanted an entertainment room where we could watch movies and entertain guests. One fine day, we realised that it was now or never!
When we started researching our options, we first thought it would be best to hire a designer and outsource the execution to a contractor. However given the experience we had 15 years back, I knew it would not be easy. I knew there would be lot of problems in coordination between the designer, contractors and labourers. The time and effort in going to the market for each item to procure will be humongous. In case we gave the contractor liberty to purchase, I was sure we would end up getting sub-standard products. With such hectic lives managing work and children, I knew we needed a simpler solution.
So, we started researching again. Thanks to google following our search, we saw very promising ads by Livspace on how they offer end-to-end interiors solutions. Hundreds of Livspace reviews later, I discussed this option with my wife. She was very skeptical about going the online way, but I scheduled a consultation anyway. After all, what was there to lose?
We were allocated a designer and we reached out to him. Although he suggested we meet at their office, we convinced him to come home to get a better idea. When we met the designer for the first time and discussed our home, we instantly clicked. We showed him our house, explained what we wanted to do. He assured us that the Livspace team would make sure we got the home that we had envisioned for ourselves. A few weeks later, when we got the initial designs, we were extremely happy to see that all our specifications had been incorporated. From re-modelling the hall to a complete makeover of the children’s room and transforming the kitchen. The designer adopted a less is more approach for the entire home.
In the entertainment room, he incorporated a sleek design and made sure that all the unsightly wires for the television and speakers remained concealed. A big bonus if you ask me! I was particularly elated about this. He gave an uber-cool lacquered finish bar cabinet with mirrored interiors. Needless to say, it has now been stocked and has become the center of attraction in many of our house parties.
As for my closet, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. The designer designed the modules within the wardrobes as per my needs. It consists of clothing rails, dedicated drawers for jewellery for my wife, footwear and accessories. I also got a floor to ceiling bookshelf in the living room and the bibliophile in me could not be happier. An added bonus was the reading nook he designed with a wicker swing to make my evenings cozy and peaceful. All in all, my wife and I are supremely happy with the way our designer executed the design. When we moved in, we just couldn’t believe that it was the same home we were living in. It felt brand new!
The entire renovation process was quite seamless. Except for a few glitches here and minor delays there, we were quite satisfied with the way everything was handled. Our budget went over what we had initially planned, but in the end, it was certainly worth it. Livspace truly lived up to its promise of delivering stunning home interiors. I would like to thank our designer for bearing with our nagging questions at every stage and also for diligently solving all the problems we faced at the beginning of our renovation journey. We are extremely excited to live out the rest of our lives in our beautiful home.
